Damnation Festival: University of Leeds Student Union - preview

Damnation Festival preview

University of Leeds Student Union

This weekend a completely sold out Damnation Festival welcomes the metal community to Leeds, for a celebration of extreme metal, in all its diverse forms over four mighty stages.

The highlight of course is death metal super group Bloodbath, who headline the festival. Bringing together musicians from Opeth, Katatonia and Paradise Lost, their relentless pulverising sound, is also marked with great musicianship. Bloodbath are on the Jagermeister stage.

The diversity of music brought together this year is truly breathtaking. The extraordinary Nordic Giants, on the Eyesore stage, with their cinematic like musical pieces accompanying edgy film making, are utterly unique and compelling. Dressed in bird like costumes they also carry an air of mystery that is incredibly intriguing.

Myrkur, on the Jagermeister stage, with her choral like black metal is simply spellbinding, and is sure to be a highlight of the Festival.

Leprous on the Eyesore stage, with their soaring progressive metal with its jazz like musical tones, are absolutely not to be missed. For a while Leprous were the live band for Emperor’s former frontman, Ihsahn. They are that good!

Death metal is a big theme of this year’s Damnation. Alongside Bloodbath, there is Vallenfyre, Dying Fetus, and the astonishing technical death metal of Beyond Creation to savour. The mosh pit will be on overdrive!

Paradise Lost on the Jagermeister stage with their gothic death-doom, are joined by Pallbearer with their epic doom, who open on the Jagermeister stage.

This is one amazing and wonderfully diverse lineup, and the metal highlight of the year. Sonic Bandwagon will of course be there to cover it all.
