Under The Spotlight - Jake Breeze

Formerly named Albino Gorilla, up and coming Alt/Rock band, Rivet City, have slowly been creating a name for themselves over the past year or so. With a series of singles set to be released for the remainder of 2015, along with a UK tour, it marks further exciting times for this young Manchester based band.

Sonic Bandwagon will welcome frontman Jake Breeze to the show in October/November after he’s travelled Thailand in September, which will surely make for some interesting topics of conversation on his return. He is also next to be put Under The Spotlight so read on to find out which underground band he thinks deserves to make it, what his life mantra is, and why he’d love to live the life of a hermit.

Music

What are your top 5 favourite songs? ‘Tangerine’ - Led Zeppelin, ‘Rape Me’ - Nirvana, ‘Bad Luck and Trouble’ - Lightning Hopkins, ‘Highs 2 Lows’ - Nujabes ft. Cisse Star, ‘Staunton Lick’ - Lemon Jelly

Who is the greatest rock star of all time? There’s no such thing as a rock star, it’s just a marketing slogan.

What is your favourite song lyric? “I don’t wanna kill a cop, what I want are neighbourhoods where they don’t have to get called, when the shit goes down, ‘cos our friends they are enough, and our neighbours have enough..”. that entire ending section in ‘My Idea of Fun’ by Wingnut Dishwashers Union is just beautiful.

Name one underground/unsigned band that deserves to make it? ‘Ask My Bull’. Seen them a few times over the years, but the most recent one at Antwerp Mansion blew my brains out of the back of my skull.

What has been the best gig you’ve attended? ‘Singing for Sophie’, organised by my friend Liam Caly. Watching Aziz Ibrahim in a room of about 20 people absolutely killing it was better than any massive gig.

If you could perform at any venue in the world where would it be? I’d love to play a gig in the centre of Marrakesh, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant made it look like a blast!

TV / Film / Literature

What are your top 5 favourite films? V for Vendetta, The Eagle, Titan A.E., Trainspotting, The Good Shepherd

Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life? I don’t know of many actors to be honest! Although if a young Danny Dyer could nail a Northern accent, let’s be honest that would be epic.

What is your favourite music related film? Killing Bono

What is your favourite line/speech in a film/TV Show?Words will always retain their power.” V for Vendetta

Which fictional character would you most like to date? Evey Hammond (V for Vendetta). She’s independent and intelligent, but also empathetic and kind.

What fictional character reminds you most of yourself? Rock Lee from ‘Naruto’. Work ethic, self discipline, and kindness are things that mean a lot to me.

What is your favourite book? ‘Stuart: A Life Backwards’. I challenge anyone to read it and not have it completely change their outlook on society.

What are you reading at the moment/last book you read? At the moment ‘Austerlitz’ by W.G Sebald. I was meant to read it for uni but never finished. It’s that good of a book that reading it within a time-scale couldn’t do it justice.

What would you name the autobiography of your life? Jake Breeze- The Movie.

Personality

Name one of your favourite quotes? “It’s not over ’til I win!” Les Brown

What is your biggest fear? Failure

What is your proudest accomplishment? Every gig we ever play, pride isn’t even the word.

What makes you laugh the most? Most things to be honest, I’m constantly walking about chuckling to myself.

What is your life mantra/ultimate goal? Everyone you meet is a friend unless proven otherwise. Not much of a mantra but it’s always served me well.

You can choose your last meal. What will the menu consist of? Halloumi cheese. Shit loads of it.

Hypothetical

What superpower would you have for one day? Some sort of good vibes beam I could shoot at every person I passed.

What one item would you take with you on a desert island? Some kind of guide to the edible plants and herbs there. I’ve always wanted to live off the land somewhere!

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? Learn bushcraft of some kind, and then I’d be able to just live in the local forest living the dream.

If you could go back in time, what is one piece of advice you would give your younger self? The possible consequences usually aren’t half as bad as the feeling of never knowing what could’ve happened mate.

If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be? There’s so many events from the past I’d love to see! If I HAD to choose one, probably to spend a day with Rasputin at the Romanovs’ palace.

Inside the ‘Pure Studio’

What is your favourite word? Empathy

What is your least favourite word? Selfie

What switches you on? Anything done with passion.

What switches you off? Ignorance and selfishness.

What sound or noise do you love? A strong wind blowing across hills.

What sound or noise do you hate? Football chants anywhere other than a sport stadium. This bus has 60 people on it mate, we don’t need you screaming your undying loyalty to Man City on a Friday evening.

What is your favourite curse word? Shite.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Some kind of hermit that lives in a cave whom people go to for advice, paying in food or whatever they can spare. That’d be sick.

What profession would you not like to do? Anything to do with finance. Numbers are the bane of my existence.

If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates? I’d like him/her to wink and say ‘who’s bullshit now’ and then remind me that Buddha is having a vegetarian bbq at 7.
